We bought this home knowing we had our work cut out for us, and that it would not be instantaneous. The last known remodel was in the 1990's. We wanted to retain the mid-century feel while keeping a classic, yet modern design.
Our first project was to create a cozy and comfortable living space that is clean and inviting. We replaced a bland ceiling with tongue and groove for texture. Carpet over linoleum was replaced with bamboo hardwood flooring. Ineffective and likely original ceiling insulation was replaced with closed cell foam, for increased energy efficiency. The sole lighting source, a dated track lighting fixture, was replaced with recessed lighting set in three (panels) to create as little or as much lighting as desired at any given time. The old and outdated fireplace was given a makeover while keeping the original brick. Finally, the hallow beam coverings were replaced with solid, reclaimed boxcar flooring.
